How do I show and sell my work at The Arts Depot?

First, you need to become a member.

When you join the Depot Artists Association, you are asked to fill out a membership form. This is the best way to let the Gallery Committee know you wish to be a Showcase Artist in the Members Gallery or if you want to be considered for a show in the Spotlight Gallery. It is also your opportunity to let us know if you would like to serve on the Gallery Committee.

Of course, every member is eligible to exhibit two works in the Annual Members Show, but Showcase Artists in the Members Gallery are chosen as space and time allows. If you have checked the Members Gallery box on your membership form, we will mail you a schedule of times for the next year (usually in the spring) and you can select the time best for you. (1st, 2nd, & 3rd choice).

We will try to see that you get a slot. However, there are only five slots and four artists for each. Your selection of times needs to be returned immediately because artists are chosen on a first come first served basis. In order to open up the Members Gallery to more members we don’t allow for artists to be Showcase Artists two years in a row. Also, you must be a member to be a Showcase Artist.

The Spotlight Gallery is for juried shows. That means that the Gallery Committee reviews applications once a year (usually in April) to select the shows for the next year. If you have checked the Spotlight Gallery box on your membership form, you will be notified when and how to submit an application for the jurying. However, you do not have to be a member to apply. We have about six Spotlight Gallery shows a year. It is a difficult job for the Gallery Committee to select such a few shows for the many applications that we get. If you have submitted and do not get a show, you can apply again the next year. If you do get a show, you cannot apply again for two years. Again, we want to give as many artists an opportunity to show as possible.

If you don’t want a show but would like to sell work in the Members Gallery, members may exhibit and sell work in the furnished art racks, display cases, and card racks. We call this consignment work. Again, space is limited so we ask that Consignment Artists limit their consignment work to about a dozen packages of cards, and about six unframed, matted or mounted works. Three dimensional work will be displayed in the display cases as space permits. We ask that Consignment Artists rotate their work every six months so that our offerings to the public stay fresh and appealing. Work must be checked in at the office so that each piece can be given an inventory number. The Arts Depot will retain a 30% commission on all sales of work from either gallery. Work will be shown at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Due to prohibitive insurance costs the Depot Artists Association cannot be responsible for damage or loss of artwork; however, all responsible precautions will be taken for security of the artwork.
