Penny Arrington Hite was born and raised in Abingdon. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory & Henry College and subsequently taught school in the Roanoke area for twelve years. A career change led her to the printing industry, but in the mid-1980’s she decided working with art was important to her so she went back to school earning an interior design degree from Randolph Tech near Greensboro, NC. She worked in the interior design field in Washington DC, but her homeland eventually called and she returned to Abingdon in 1990 where she continues to pursue her passion in life: painting. Penny has painted periodically since early childhood and is most grateful for the many local artists who have taken her under their wings such as Tedd Blevins, John Sauers, and George Chavatel. Most recently Penny studied with Janice Beck in Provence, France perfecting her watercolor techniques. Penny presently paints in watercolor and pastels and her subject matter is varied concentrating mostly in botanicals, landscapes, florals and still life.
