Patsy is a native of Southwest Virginia living in the Castlewood area of Russell County her entire life. As a local and self-taught photographer, she enjoys the beauty of this area with an intimate knowledge gained from a lifetime of observation living in the Appalachian Mountains. Her observations are captured and translated through the use of digital media and a discerning eye for thought provoking photography. Patsy’s journey has taken her to different places and venues to photograph, but she says “this region still remains my favorite place… My passion is fueled by the beauty that surrounds me.” In 2010, Patsy began a project “Scenes from Southwest Virginia” as a participant in the Women in the Arts program. At that time, she started a facebook page featuring photography from this area and now has over 10,000 members in the group. Patsy plans to eventually have a book but several of her images have already been published in local brochures promoting the region. Patsy’s philosophy regarding her work is “to just get out there with your camera, enjoy the beauty, and record moments in time along your journey.
