Biography

A retired biology and earth science teacher of Big Rock, Virginia, Talbott received most of her formal art instruction in local community colleges. She has, however; participated in art workshops in a variety of media. The paintings exhibited here are all watercolors and their emphasis on plants and scenery is the result of her interest in nature. Recently Talbott has produced woven pictures made from two paintings of the same or different subjects. She also paints with acrylics and alcohol inks and has had a lifelong interest in arts and crafts. Mary has exhibited her works at the Appalachian Arts Center and has participated in shows at Southwest Virginia Community College, the Virginia Highlands Festival and the Booth Center in Grundy Virginia. Active in the Friends group, Talbott has produced art projects for the Buchanan County Public Library and designed the county Christmas ornament for many years. She also worked on the Grundy town mural that was painted by students of Ellen Elmes.
