Nature is the best teacher & practice makes perfect.

Farhana was born & raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She came to the United States of America with her family when she was a teenager and moved to Abingdon, VA 6 years ago where she lives with her husband and two sons. Farhana says “I used to be a banker, but now I am a stay-at- home mom. I don't have any formal art education. I am a self-taught artist, learning through TV shows, books, & experimentation.” She says she always liked to sketch, but never painted until 2010 and tells us “It all started when my younger sister & I were hanging out one night. She was painting a tree for her friend's wedding. She gave me her paint supplies & asked me to join with her. I painted a vase with flowers that was sitting on a table in my parent’s living room. My sister liked my painting so much that she took me to Michaels the next day & bought me a painting starter kit.” Farhana now paints primarily in oils and acrylics. She can be found most Wednesdays attending the Wednesday Morning Painters group at the Arts Depot. Farhana has traveled to many states & counties and enjoys taking pictures of scenery while she travels and then studies them. Her philosophy regarding art is “to capture on canvas what I see & like in nature…. Nature is the best teacher & practice makes it perfect."
