Anne Gurney Thwaites was born in Baltimore, Anne Gurney Thwaites graduated from Emory & Henry College with a BA in English and Art. There she studied with George Chavatel and Charles Goolsby. She has continued her education with classes from E&H, ETSU, and numerous workshops. For over 25 years, she has taught after school and summer art classes in Virginia and Tennessee. She has been an instructor for various summer enrichment programs such as Summer Scholars Program in Emory, Johnson City Area Arts Council's Arts Corp, and Kingsport ARTS. She currently teaches children's art lessons at Art in the Heart Gallery in Kingsport, and adult classes at the Kingsport Senior Center. Primarily an oil and acrylic painter, she focuses mainly on landscape. Her work can be seen in local and regional juried shows, where her paintings have won numerous awards, including Third Place in the Appalachian Art Show and Award of Merit in Virginia Highlands Festival Juried Art Show. Her work can be seen at Art in the Heart Gallery in Kingsport, TN.
